JAMAICA, N.Y. -- St. John's freshman point guard Daryll Hill (Queens, N.Y./Cardozo) was named the BIG EAST Conference's Rookie of the Week, it was announced today. This is the first time this season Hill has received the award.
Hill averaged 24.5 points and 3.0 assists last week, leading the Red Storm (6-17, 1-11 BIG EAST) to their first big east win over Georgetown.
In a 65-58 win over Georgetown at Madison Square Garden last Wednesday, Hill scored a team-high 22 points, dished out three assists and recorded four steals. Hill sealed the win with a 25-foot three-pointer from the top of the key for a nine-point lead with less than two minutes left as the Red Storm defeated Georgetown 65-58.
On Sunday, Hill scored 27 points, hitting 10 of 20 shots from the field and knocked down four three pointers. His outstanding performance fell short as his last second three-point attempt went in and out at the buzzer, with Virginia Tech beating St. John's 54-53.
In the last five games, Hill is leading the team in scoring (20.4 ppg) and in assists (3.5 apg), while grabbing 2.2 rebounds and recording 2.0 steals per game.
