Pittsburgh, Pa.. - The St. John's women's swimming team was in fourth place going into the last day of competition and came on strong to finish in second place, out of a field of 29 teams, with 403.50 points at the 2004 ECAC Championships. Boston College finished in first on the women's side with 566 total points. The St. John's men's swimming team only had one representative in an event and finished in 25th place overall, out of a field of 29 teams.
The St. John's men's team competed in only one event, as Senior Pawel Sokolowski finished in first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.94.
Senior Elizabeth Malinowski finished in second place in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:25.99 to earn 17 points for St. John's. Caitlin Ranney finished in fourth in the 100- yard freestyle with a time of 52.99 to 15 points. Gosia Roddzik broke a St. John's University record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.07; she finished fourth in the event earning 15 points.
Going into the last couple of events St. John's climbed up into the top three in the overall standings. The women's 800-yard medley relay team of Nuudi, Darinka Savcic, Elizabeth Malinowski, Ziolkowski finished in fourth place with a time of 7:50.15 to earn 30 points for St. John's. In the last event of the championship the women's 400-yard free relay team of Caitlin Ranney, Maya Ziolkowski, Christine Myers and Laura Nuudi finished in third place with a time of 3:34.07 to lock up a second place finish in the ECAC Championship.
