St. John’s to Take on Sacred Heart on Sunday

Red Storm will take on Pioneers for the first time ever
QUEENS, N.Y.- Coming off a Thursday night victory, the St. John's men's soccer team (3-2-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) will return to Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium to meet Sacred Heart (1-2-2, 0-0-0 MAAC) at 7 p.m.
The Red Storm will play its fourth consecutive match in Queens when it faces the Pioneers for the first time ever. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Ralph Bednarczyk on the call. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com and tickets can be purchased here.
The Johnnies are fresh off a 1-0 victory over FDU on Thursday night. Bjorn Nikolajewski tallied his first career goal in 50th minute that served as the difference-maker. St. John's has scored first in all three of its wins this season.
Nikolajewski, a team captain who missed the first six games of the 2025 campaign due to injury, buried his first-ever goal in his 49thcollegiate appearance on Thursday night. The graduate student defender trapped a Knights' clearance attempt before launching a strike into the bottom right corner of the net.
The Red Storm goalkeeping and defensive units have been stellar thus far logging four clean sheets in their first seven matches. The Johnnies hold a goals against average of .071 and have allowed just 16 shots on goal. Freshman Nicholas Bezama tallied a shutout during his first collegiate start against the Knights on Thursday.
Despite only being separated by 58 miles, St. John's and Sacred Heart will meet for the first time on Sunday night.
The Pioneers enter the match with a 1-2-2 overall record to begin the 2025 campaign. After dropping its first two matches, Sacred Heart defeated Yale before tallying a pair of back-to-back draws against FDU and most recently, Seton Hall. The squad ranks 11th in NCAA Division I earning 7.0 corner kicks per contest.
Sacred Heart is led by Preseason MAAC Player of the Year David Gallego Garcia, who has posted a strong start to his senior campaign. The senior has tallied two goals and two assists (six points) through five games.
Sunday's match marks the Pioneers final non-conference game before beginning MAAC play on Sept. 20 against Saint Peter's.
