St. John's Head Coach Norm Roberts
"I thought it was a very hard-fought game today. I felt we competed from the opening tip to the final horn. West Virginia is a great team. They have a great offense, lots of continuity within that offense, great screens throughout it. And then they have great players running it."
"I thought we did better in the second half defending West Virginia's offense than the first. We had a moment in the second half where we stopped them on four straight occasions. I thought that was our moment to make a move, make some plays, and we rushed it. We're a young team though, and that'll improve."
"We are not a very big team. West Virginia has a really good perimeter offense, and we defended that. Consequently, we didn't sink down, and that allowed D'or Fischer and others to work against us well on the inside for West Virgnia."
"West Virginia is a long team. On defense, they give you a passing lane, making you think it's open. Then they quickly take it away because all their guys are so long on defense."
"D'or was big today, huge even. And again, we focused more on taking away the perimeter, and that allowed him to have a great day for them."
West Virginia Head Coach John Beilein
"This team can play so Norm is going to get them going. That team is much like Villanova with their quick guards. Those 19 turnovers were caused by their quick defense."
"They tried to stop some of the action on the perimeter and that freed up D'or (Fisher) in the beginning. I thought that was a big factor that D'or, Tyrone (Sally), Mike (Gansey), and Darris (Nichols) were on the floor for loose balls."
"I thought that (Daryll) Hill and (Lamont) Hamilton made a lot of guarded shots. Sometimes you just can't stop that. We slowed them down a little bit in the first half with man-to-man defense but once they got the one-and-one situation Hill just drove to the lane and hurt us on the free throw line."
