DARYLL:
Hello and welcome back to "Shooting 3's With Daryll Hill."
We have one week of practice under our belt, and so far I see a lot of our young players are maturing fast. I think we have a well-rounded team with depth and defensive intensity, and if we keep working really hard I think we can be really good.
Everyone is excited about playing in the new BIG EAST, which is definitely one of the top leagues in the nation. I think our freshmen are doing well with the intensity and are handling how hard they need to play at practice. Coming out of high school, you really don't realize how good the competition is. In college, there are a lot of guys that are playing hard for the future and trying to make it in professional basketball. Everyone works much harder to try to get where they need to go. So if our new guys keep up that mindset of "I want to be the best in this league," I think we'll be fine.
I'm excited about BIG EAST Media Day coming up on Wednesday, Oct. 26. A lot of the players that will be there I've played with or against on other teams coming up, or I've played against in the last two years in college. I like talking with the media and expressing myself, and letting people know that St. John's is going to be back on the map.
I think it's important that everyone comes out and watches us perform in two weeks at the Red Storm Basketball Tip-Off. It's free, and people will get a chance to see what's in store for the season. We're going to play hard for the fans and show them what St. John's basketball is all about. It's going to be exciting.
Thanks to the fans who sent questions. I already talked about the new guys on the team and things like that, and one fan asked me if I like to dunk. If I'm really hyped I can dunk for sure, but I try to focus on making plays. If I can set a big man up for a dunk when everyone's least expecting it or get the ball in some other way, it's still worth two points.
Thanks for logging on to "Shooting 3's With Daryll Hill." There will be more to come next week.
