St. John's Head Coach Norm Roberts
On today's game:
"I thought it was a very good game with two teams battling. Our guys did a good job of shooting the basketball early. We got out to a lead. A lot of that has to do with our defense. We really defended well and then we rebounded the basketball well which was a big key for us."
On team rebounding:
"We played with a lot of energy. Our little guys really got to the glass and really rebounded the ball and kept them off the glass better than the first time we played. Phil Missere did a great job. Dexter Gray did a terrific job and obviously Ryan Williams did a terrific job of attacking the glass."
On the second half:
"I think we played under control for most of the game. We had some silly turnovers at the end where we didn't understand (that) we were playing against the clock at that time. That is a learning experience. The last two games we have been right there. They didn't fall our way, but that is what is great about our guys. We work hard. They come back in and work hard again. A lot of that has to do with our two best players, Darryl (Hill) and Lamont (Hamilton). They both work hard everyday. They are our best practice players every day."
On free-throw shooting today:
"Guys are stepping up and being tough. There wasn't anything more we were doing (today). We were always shooting free throws and working on them, but when you get into a groove you feel confident and shoot the ball better. We did that today."
On the fist half:
"I thought we were playing really well. I felt that if we can keep defending and rebounding the basketball we would be okay. We didn't start the second half great, but then again they didn't score a bunch either. I felt we were in pretty good shape and we made some key baskets when we had to."
On Ryan Williams:
"I think Ryan can get better. He has been working on his shot and we want him to be aggressive. I want him to play in a flow. He wasn't going into the game thinking 'I want to make three threes today'. He went into the game saying 'I want to help the team. I want to do everything to help the team win' and then the threes came in the flow of the game."
Daryll Hill
On beating the Georgetown press:
"We just try to stay in control and not turn the ball over. That makes it hard for them to guard us. When we got over the press we just tried to set up our offense and just make it happen (on offense)."
On winning:
"It feels good. I know the team can do it, because of how hard we work in practice. We never let up. It was going to come for us to get a win."
Ryan Williams
On block at the end of the game:
"That is just basketball. That was a hustle play. They got beat and I just had to hustle back to make sure they didn't score. Fortunately, we scored and got momentum going."
On Coach Norm Roberts:
"Coach is a positive person. He might get on us if we are not doing what we have to do. He comes in everyday ready to work so we have to follow right behind him."
