SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Hakim Warrick emerged from a slight slump Wednesday night to score a career-high 35 points and No. 15 Syracuse broke a two-game losing streak with an 83-69 victory over St. John's.
It was the 20th consecutive road loss for St. John's (9-15, 3-11 Big East), which got a career-high 33 points from sophomore guard Daryll Hill. His previous best was 30 earlier this year against Notre Dame.
St. John's has not won on the road since a 72-61 victory at Stony Brook on Nov. 29, 2003.
Warrick was coming off two subpar games in which he scored a season-low 12 points in each - losses to No. 3 Boston College and No. 18 Pittsburgh.
He scored 14 points in the first half to help Syracuse (23-5, 10-4) build a double-digit lead, and then sparked another Orange rally in the second half when St. John's used a barrage of 3-pointers to trim an 18-point deficit to five 2 minutes into the second half.
Warrick was 15-of-19 at the free throw line and grabbed 10 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season. His 35 points eclipsed the 32 he scored two weeks ago against Villanova.
Josh Pace added 12 points for Syracuse, which had lost four of six.
Hill made seven 3-pointers as St. John's went 12-of-24 from behind the arc to keep the game close.
Trailing 38-20 with 2{ minutes to play in the first half, St. John's hit seven straight 3s to make it 51-44 with 14:39 to play. Hill hit four of those long-range shots as St. John's scored the first eight points of the second half to make it 43-38.
Syracuse regained control of the game with an 18-6 run, as Warrick accounted for half of his team's points during the spurt.
Eugene Lawrence added 12 points for St. John's.
Syracuse hit its first eight shots en route to a 25-10 lead.
