Head Coach Norm Roberts
On tonight's game:
"I was really excited about my team. We didn't get off to a great start, but stayed tough and we executed well. We had a great team effort offensively and defensively. We pulled for one another and that's just the beginning of being a good team."
On what Daryll Hill offers the team:
"Daryll gives us great leadership and floor balance. He creates plays for others and gives us unbelievable intensity on defense. He does what he needs to help us win."
On the game against Maryland:
"It is exciting for us to have an opportunity so early in the year to play on national television and a great opportunity for St. John's University to play in such a prestigious tournament. Maryland is a terrific program. Coach Williams does an unbelievable job."
On the St. John's legacy:
"I've spoken with Daryll [Hill], Lamont [Hamilton] and Aaron [Spears] as seniors and I asked them what they wanted to leave as their legacy here at St. John's. I believe they all want to leave their legacy as helping bring St. John's back to being a very competitive and successful team, and I believe that those three will do whatever it takes to make that happen."
Senior Guard Daryll Hill
On the changing of his role on the team:
"Coach didn't have to tell me. We have great players and I knew as a point guard what I needed to do."
Senior Forward Aaron Spears
On the game against Maryland:
"We are really excited to play Maryland. They are a really good basketball team, and they have a lot of history. Come Monday we're just going to practice hard and prepare our best for Maryland. It's going to be a real good game."
Navy Head Coach Billy Lange
On St. John's:
"They are consistently getting better and better, and there always been that attitude of toughness and athleticism. Their staff has done a great job not just in recruiting but in developing them. [Anthony] Mason has gotten better since last year and [Lamont] Hamilton simply keeps his back to the basket trying to power guys."
