Postgame Notes: St. John's 72, Navy 49

- With the 72-49 win, St. John's captured the New York Regional Championship of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic. The Red Storm defeated Navy in the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs and the first since 1985.
- The Red Storm advances to the semifinals of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic and plays Maryland on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
- St. John's has won back-to-back games by 20-plus point margins for the first time since the 2002-03 season and opened its season with a pair of 20-point victories for the first time since 1990-91.
- The Red Storm fell behind by as many as nine points in the first half (21-12, 10:13 remaining), but went on a 20-4 run to take a 35-25 lead into the intermission. Daryll Hill scored eight points and grabbed two offensive rebounds, and the team collectively shot 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the floor over the run.
- St. John's began the second half on a tear, scoring the first eight points of the period and opening up a 43-25 advantage. Avery Patterson and Anthony Mason Jr. both connected on 3-point attempts to open the scoring, and Lamont Hamilton knocked down a pair of free throws to take an 18-point lead.
- Junior guard Avery Patterson knocked down 5-of-12 field goals and 4-of-9 3-point attempts in scoring 15 points leading the team in scoring for the second straight night. For his efforts, Patterson was named the New York Regional Most Valuable Player.
- In addition to Patterson's 15 points, veterans Hamilton (10 points) and Eugene Lawrence (10) both scored in double figures. Hill came off the bench to score an efficient nine points, and Mason Jr. (eight), Aaron Spears (seven) and Larry Wright (seven) all chipped in to the balanced scoring effort.
- Spears scored six of his seven points in the second half and tied a career-high with three blocked shots in the contest.
- Sophomore center Tomas Jasiulionis tied a career-best with four points, as he went 1-of-2 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
