Postgame Notes: St. John's 64, LIU 46

- St. John's defeated Long Island University 64-46 to improve to 6-3 in all-time series between schools that dates back to the 1930-31 season. Tonight's matchup was the first in the last 10 seasons and the third in the last 70 seasons.
- The Red Storm jumped out to an 8-1 lead to start the game and later went on a 10-0 run to grab a 24-8 lead with 5:18 remaining in the first half. St. John's defense held the Blackbirds to just 26.9 percent shooting (7-26) and a total of 19 points that was tied for the lowest by a Red Storm opponent in a half this season.
- A 12-5 spurt over the opening five minutes of the second half gave the Red Storm its largest lead of the night at 45-24, as St. John's led from start-to-finish.
- Anthony Mason Jr. scored eight of the team's 12 points over its decisive run to begin the second period. Mason Jr. tied a career-high with 15 points in the game, 13 of which came in the second half, and scored 12 of the team's 26 points in the paint.
- Freshman Qa'rraan Calhoun, sophomore Ricky Torres and junior Avery Patterson added 10 points apiece, as the Red Storm had four players score in double figures for the second straight game.
- Calhoun netted all 10 of his career-high points in the first half and added a team and career high eight rebounds and a blocked shot in 21 minutes.
- For the second time in three games, Torres scored at least 10 points in limited minutes, knocking down 3-of-5 field goals and 2-of-3 three-pointers in 16 minutes against LIU. Torres entered the night as the BIG EAST Conference leader in 3-point field goal percentage and improved to 77.8 percent (7-of-9) accuracy from downtown.
- Patterson, the team's leading scorer, recorded seven of his 10 points in the second half and stayed perfect from the free throw line, going 4-for-4 from the stripe tonight. The junior transfer continued to fire from long range, hitting on 2-of-8 three-pointers for his BIG EAST leading 20th and 21st 3-point field goals of the year.
- Sophomore Tomas Jasiulionis made his first career start in the contest and chipped in with three points, a career-high three assists and a block in 18 minutes. The 6-foot-11 Lithuanian assisted on the team's first bucket of the game, a 3-point field goal by Patterson, for his first career helper.
- The Red Storm bench outscored LIU's 25-9 in the first half and 25-18 for the game, hitting its season average of 24.6 points per game. St. John's has gotten much better production from its reserves this season with 24.7 points and 73.3 minutes a night, compared to 13.9 points and 58.4 minutes last season.
