Friars Outlast Red Storm, 81-73

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Sharaud Curry scored a game-high 19 points and had five assists to lead Providence to an 81-73 win over St. John's on Saturday night.
Herbert Hill added 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 shooting from the line.
Daryll Hill led five St. John's players in double figures with 16.
St. John's (10-10, 3-6 Big East) took a 55-46 lead on Phil Missere's tip-in early in the second half. But the Friars (10-10, 3-6) put together a 35-18 run and limited the Red Storm to just five baskets the rest of the game. The Red Storm shot 37 percent in the second half.
Hill's three-point play at 4:54 started a series of four lead changes. Hill made two free throws for a 74-71 lead and Anthony Mason Jr.'s putback got the Red Storm to within one 74-73.
The Friars closed out the game with an 7-0 run.
The Friars shot 60 percent and the Red Storm 59 percent in the first half. Lamont Hamilton scored 11, including 6 of 6 from the foul line and Aaron Spears had 10 to spark the Red Storm to a 45-40 halftime lead.
