- Tonight's meeting was the 21st in an all-time series against DePaul that dates back to the 1931-32 season. The Red Storm improved to 9-12 in the series and 4-1 all-time on its home floor.
- The Red Storm won its BIG EAST Conference opener for the first time since defeating Seton Hall 74-66 in the 2002-03 opener.
- St. John's improved to 10-4 on the season, reaching the 10-win mark the sixth-fastest in school history and the fastest since the 1998-99 season. The Red Storm bounced back from a 63-51 setback to Hofstra on Dec. 29 to win for the eighth time in nine games.
- With a pair of free throws at the 16:57 mark of the second half, senior Lamont Hamilton reached the 1,000-point plateau. He became the 43rd player in St. John's history to reach 1,000 points and finished the game with nine points (1,003 career).
- Junior Eugene Lawrence pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds and added eight points, eight assists and two steals in the contest. Lawrence's previous career-best was 10, which he accomplished twice (last vs. West Virginia, 1/29/06).
- Hamilton led the Red Storm with nine points, as no St. John's player scored in double figures. Eight different players knocked down at least two field goals and nine scored at least four points.
- Senior Aaron Spears hit on 3-of-5 field goal attempts and grabbed four rebounds (three offensive). Spears finished two layups to tie the game at the 9:31 and 7:55 marks of the half and scored six straight points for the Red Storm. His basket with 7:12 remaining put the Red Storm up for good, 48-46.
- Daryll Hill followed Spears' six straight points with six straight of his own and finished the game with nine on 4-of-6 shooting. All nine of Hill's points came in the final seven minutes of the game, including a key 3-pointer as the shot clock expired with 45 seconds to play.
