- The Red Storm opened the game on a 7-0 run which led to a 15-3 advantage versus the Blackbirds at the 14:19 mark.
- Sophomore Malik Boothe hit his first 3-pointer of the year in the first half after taking five games to hit his first, a season ago. He made five shots from long distance in all of last year.
- Boothe scored six points in the first 14 minutes, which is his highest scoring output since Feb. 7 against Villanova.
- The second-year point guard tied a career high with three steals which matched his performance at UConn on January 8, 2008. Boothe also set a new career high with six rebounds, beating out his previous best of five at Duke on Feb. 23, 2008.
- St. John's registered no turnovers till 2:58 in the first quarter.
- STJ's assist-to-turnover ratio was an efficient 6-to-1 in the first half while LIU managed only three assists against 10 turnovers.
- Sophomore swingman D.J. Kennedy recorded his 12th career double-figure scoring effort before the first half ended. Including last year, the sophomore had five double-digit scoring performances in his last six and games and four in a row dating back to March 1 vs. Seton Hall last season.
- Kennedy set a new career-high in points with 23, his first career 20-point performance. His previous best was 18 points versus LIU on Nov. 28 last season.
- The Red Storm trailed the Blackbirds in rebounding into the second half but St. John's gained the rebounding edge when Kennedy hauled in an offensive rebound to give the Red Storm a 35-34 advantage. St. John's finished the battle of the boards with 44 versus LIU's 40.
- Kennedy led a trio a players in double-figures as Sean Evans and Justin Burrell both topped ten points. Evans finished with 13 points and Burrell chipped in with 14.
- Sophomore Sean Evans had six rebounds in the first half, his highest total since Feb. 20 vs. Marquette.
- Evans recorded his first career double-double when he hauled in his 10th board with 5:58 left in the game. He led all players in rebounding taking in 11 caroms.
- The sophomore big man had a career day, setting personal bests in points (13), rebounds (11), field goals attempted (10) and steals (three) in just 27 minutes.
- Burrell set a new career-high with three assists against the Blackbirds. The sophomore forward recorded two four other times, the last coming against Notre Dame on March 5, 2008.
- Senior Anthony Mason Jr. set a new career-high in blocks with 15:00 minutes left in the second half when he swatted his third shot of the game.
- The Red Storm went on a 9-0 scoring run with 19 minutes remaining in the second half to increase its lead from 38-35.
- Sophomore guard Paris Horne tied career-highs in field goals attempted(10), tree throws made (three) and free throws attempted (four) in just 21 minutes versus LIU
- Freshman Quincy Roberts hit a 3-pointer at 11:03 in the second half to record the first score of his career.
- Rookie TyShwan Edmondson made his Red Storm debut, playing two minutes versus LIU.
- Freshman Phil Wait missed tonight's game with a "charley horse" in right quadriceps muscle.
