QUEENS, N.Y. -
Head Coach Norm Roberts
Opening Statement
"Brown played hard and smart. They made some big shots. We played good defense on them in the first half and then they made some shots. They gained confidence. We had some spurts in the second half and broke it open, but couldn't keep it going. We made some great toughness plays and Sean did a great job at the free throw line and made some big ones for us."
On Brown's energy
"There are no easy games, but the bottom line is they gained confidence. We are giving up too many layups, which end up being high-percentage shots. We want our guys to be aggressive and they are doing a good job with that. We are giving up easy baskets and they made them. They had a lot of energy."
On the difference in the team from last season
"We are tougher. We are mentally and physically tough. We are more versatile and we can go to other guys to be fresh. We are deeper."
On Dwight Hardy
"I don't think it bothers him to come off the bench. He can sit and get a feel for the game and come right in and make plays and make shots. He is a great asset for our team. Brownlee and Hardy come off the bench with offensive energy. Brownlee made some good defensive plays and did some good things for us tonight."
Head Coach Jesse Agel
Thoughts on game:
"I'm really proud of how our guys competed, executed and showed their toughness. We've played eight halves against good competition to start the season, and of those, seven of them were great halves. I'm not a moral victory guy, I'm all about effort and tonight we showed great effort against a good St. John's team. We need better results in the end, but in terms of execution, effort and doing all the things necessary to play while under duress all game, I'm proud of my team and the way we handled it."
Junior Forward Sean Evans
On free throw shooting
"Free throws are always important, every game. They separate you from the other team and they are shots you have to make. I just felt I had to go in there and knock them down. Get fouled, go to the free throw line and knock them down."
On the team's maturity
"We've had games like this in the past, but this game showed our maturity. It shows our will to keep fighting and come out with the win. You know you have to gut it out and get the win and that's what we did today."
On his performance against Brown
"Coach is always telling me to be aggressive because I can score the ball and rebound. I just took what I had and I think I did a good job. I've been putting in the work and its starting to pay off."
Junior guard Dwight Hardy
On his energy against Brown
"I just wanted to bring energy on both ends of the floor. We wanted to get a good lead. We want to continue to get better and be able to force our will when we get up 13 or 14 points on them and extend our leads."
