Team Notes
- St. John's won its season-opener for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
- Four players scored in double-figures for St. John's. The Red Storm was 9-1 in 2010-11 when four players scored in double-figures.
- St. John's totaled a 44-10 advantage in points in the point and a 16-0 advantage in fast break points.
- St. John's had just four turnovers in the contest, including zero in the second half. The four turnovers marked the fewest since also turning the ball over four times in a win against Georgetown on Jan. 3, 2011.
- The Red Storm turned 21 Tribe turnovers into 28 points.
- After shooting 10-of-31 in the first half, St. John's was 10-of-14 in the first 8:02 of the second half to a key a 22-7 run. The Red Storm went on to shoot 67.9 percent (19-of-28) in the final stanza.
Individual Notes
- Nurideen Lindsey scored 17 of his 19 points and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor in the second half of action. Lindsey also had five steals in the contest, a feat that was accomplished only three times a season ago -- D.J. Kennedy: 6 at UCLA (Feb. 5, 2011); D.J. Kennedy: 5 at Seton Hall (March 3, 2011); Dwight Hardy: 5 at Marquette (Feb. 15, 2011).
- God'sgift Achiuwa had 17 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds. After combining to shoot 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) from the line in exhibition action, Achiuwa was 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from the charity stripe in the season-opener.
- Moe Harkless was the only player in the game to get into the scoring, rebounding, assist, blocked shot and steal columns. The freshman had 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals.
