St. John's Assistant Coach Mike Dunlap
Opening Statement:
"Everything looks better when you make shots and I think the bottom line is that at halftime we were shooting a grand total of 14 percent and were down by 11. The good news at halftime is we're able to hold that to an 11-point spread and still be at 14 percent; that's hard to find across the country. From a defensive standpoint, Louisville's the number one rebounding team in the BIG EAST, so I thought that we were very fortunate to be in that position because we played very hard.
On troubles against the zone:
"The ball movement was pretty good on the perimeter, but now we have to rip and take single dribbles into the gap to make two players guard one. We just have to add some dribble penetration to our ball movement game on the perimeter, and that's just development of a zone attack. I know that's another thing that the coach is responsible for, so, as I told them after the game, I've got to do a better job of implementing some drills to help us out in that piece; that's on me."
Freshman Forward Moe Harkless
On not harping on tough losses:
"I think it's real hard because obviously we want to win and a loss is never good for anybody. We don't like moral victories, but we just have to look at the positives for the game and just try to move forward and get better."
On long stretches without a basket:
"It's definitely very frustrating, we just got to keep working and eventually shots are going to fall. Unfortunately they weren't falling today when we needed them to fall, especially in the beginning of the game. We've just got to do a better job of getting to the rim, and I think we shot too many threes to start the game."
Freshman Guard Phil Greene
On Head Coach Steve Lavin's message:
"He talked to us at shoot around (this afternoon). He just told the team to stay together, cherish the moment at Madison Square Garden and playing at the Garden. [He told us to] play tough and play scrappy, stick together."
On the team's troubles getting a shot off in time:
"We didn't want a shorter game. We were playing our style of basketball, just so happened the clock situation came. We were playing our style, trying to get the ball in the paint, trying to get touches at the rim. It was just unfortunate for us to have a shot clock violation."
