QUEENS, N.Y. - Team Notes
- St. John's shot 46.0 percent (29-of-63) from the floor, its second-highest field goal percentage of the season. The Red Storm has shot better than 44.0 percent in all five games this season.
- The 53 points allowed by the Red Storm matched a season-low. St. John's also allowed just 53 points in a 64-53 win against Charleston (Nov. 15).
- St. John's had 10 blocked shots on the night to record at least 10 in a game for the second time this season. The season-high of 12 was set against Detroit (Nov. 13) in the season-opener.
- The Red Storm had just six turnovers on the night, tying a season-low, and also forced a season-high 18 miscues. St. John's improved to 2-1 on the season when committing fewer turnovers.
Individual Notes
- Freshman JaKarr Sampson scored a career-high 20 points to lead all scorers. Sampson has scored in double-figures in each of the last three games and is averaging 17.3 points per game in that same stretch.
- The second leading scorer in the BIG EAST, D'Angelo Harrison finished with 17 points to notch his fifth double-figure scoring effort in as many games. Harrison finished 2-of-5 from beyond the arc and is firing at a 57.1 percent clip (8-of-14) from distance in the past two games.
- Phil Greene IV finished with 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting for his fourth double-figure game of the season. Greene is shooting 48.6 percent (17-of-35) from the floor in the past two games.
- Chris Obekpa had a game-high six blocked shots. The big man is averaging 4.6 swats per game and has registered at least five blocks in three games this season, including a school-record eight in the season-opening win against Detroit (Nov. 13).
- Felix Balamou scored for the third-straight game and set new career-highs in minutes played (22), rebounds (4) and blocked shots (3).
