Team Notes
- St. John's is now 25-26 in 29 all-time appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament, including a 1-2 mark in the Steve Lavin Era.
- The loss snapped a three-game winning streak in first round games for St. John's, which is now 5-7 all-time on day one of the Tournament.
- The Red Storm was held to just 33.3 percent (22-of-66) from the floor, its fifth-lowest percentage of the season. St. John's was also limited to just 2-of-11 from beyond the arc, its fewest 3s made since also making two at USF on Jan. 18.
- St. John's shot 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the charity stripe, the eighth time this season that the squad shot at least 80.0 percent from the line.
- The Red Storm finished just -1 (40-39) on the boards against a Pitt squad that entered the game ranked fifth in the nation with a +7.9 rebound margin.
- St. John's finished with 12 turnovers compared to 13 for Pitt marking the 19th time on the year that the Red Storm had fewer miscues than its opponent.
Individual Notes
- Moe Harkless finished with a game-high 25 points, the most points scored by a St. John's player in a BIG EAST Tournament game since Marcus Hatten scored 25 against Notre Dame in the 2002 quarterfinals. The 25-point performance marked the seventh-career 20+ point contest for the freshman. Harkless also finished with nine rebounds, his 15th game this season with at least nine boards.
- D'Angelo Harrison finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to notch his first-career double-double and become the fourth different player to record a double-double for the Red Storm this season. The 10-point performance gave Harrison his team-leading 28th-career double-figure game. The guard was held without a 3-pointer (0-for-6) for the first time since Jan. 18 at USF and for just the fourth time in 32 games this year.
- God'sgift Achiuwa grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, his second-career game with double-digit boards and most since pulling down 10 rebounds on Dec. 1 at Kentucky. A career-high eight of his boards came on the offensive end.
