Head Coach Steve Lavin
Opening statement:
"Overall we were disappointed with our performance in the first half, but in the second half the kids played better basketball. The two positives were that we came out with more purpose offensively in the second half and that we had better ball movement."
On Chris Obekpa:
"This is how he has played now for a couple of months. It really is consistent and on par from what we've seen in practice. He is playing at a really high level and has returned to the trajectory to where he was at the end of his freshman season. He is in a good place on both sides of the ball and in his maturity."
On Christian Jones:
"He is an intriguing talent because he sees the floor well. If he can continue to help us on the boards, run the floor and use his strength and playmaking ability, he will be a difficult matchup for opponents. We're just looking for him to continue to make progress."
Senior Guard D'Angelo Harrison
On the first time back on the court:
"You have to credit Humboldt State for coming out with a lot of heart and energy. We were put to the test today. This game was good for us, it didn't go how we planned it to and we have to get better."
On the team's slow start:
"We just missed a lot of easy shots. Nerves got the best of us early on, but we corrected it in the second half. Our job is to compete. If Coach [Lavin] calls on you, you have to be ready to perform. He showed that he will rotate people in and out, so we just have to stay ready."
Senior Guard/Forward Sir'Dominic Pointer
On the team's ball pressure:
"That's just what we do, we press. We pride ourselves on ball pressure. We pride ourselves on defense. That is what we are going to do. We are going to play 94 feet of defense."
Junior Center/Forward Chris Obekpa
On his aggressive play:
"It is different from last year. I've been working the whole summer on my game. The coaches say to stay aggressive, so that's what has to happen. I just have to stay consistent with that."
