Head Coach Steve Lavin
Opening statement:
"Overall I was pleased with our defense, but there are a number of areas that we need to improve on. I wasn't pleased with the end of the half or end of the game execution, but I thought the overall defensive effort was solid."
On Rysheed Jordan:
"Rysheed is a very gifted basketball player that can help contribute in a number of ways on both ends of the court. The challenge for him is off the ball. The most important thing for Rysheed is growing his game in the aspects of play that don't have to do with the ball."
On pressuring the ball without fouling:
"We need to show better judgment in terms of not fouling. We always talk about pressure with purpose. We want to be aggressive but we also want to be more disciplined. We're getting better at it, but that is an area we need to improve upon."
Senior Guard D'Angelo Harrison
On five guys finishing with double-digit figures:
"That's what we have been doing the last couple of weeks in practice. Coach [Lavin] continues to stress sharing the ball. It will be like this the rest of the season since everyone continues to pick up their game."
On moving up on the program's all-time scoring list:
"I just want to have the best season I've had since I've been here with this group. Our goal is to win more games than we did last year because that wasn't enough. That's our entire team's mindset."
Junior Center/Forward Chris Obekpa
On the team's early foul trouble:
"It's good that we ran into this problem in tonight's game so that we can learn from it for the next games."
Senior Guard Jamal Branch
On tonight's performance:
"I think we needed to win both halves but things happened. We got into foul trouble early and had to deal with some fouls late in the second half. We just need to practice on that and make some adjustments."
NJIT Head Coach Jim Engles
On tonight's game:
"I thought St. John's played really focused basketball. I thought they did a lot of good things. They pressured us and made us slow it down. It was a big learning experience for our team."
On his team moving forward:
"This is a 40-minute game and we didn't play well. We have to learn from our mistakes and come back and start practice tomorrow to get ready for our next game."
