"Samir Doughty is one of the better combo guards in the 2015 class" said Lavin. "He has a superb offensive skill set combined with impressive athleticism and body control. Samir is a precise passer with excellent court vision."
Rated the No. 12 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania by ESPN, Doughty was selected as a member of both first team All-State and first team All-Public League Division A after averaging 17 points, six rebounds and three assists per game as a junior at the Math, Civics and Sciences Charter School in 2013-14. During his impressive 500-point junior season, Doughty recorded five double-doubles as well as 27 double-figure scoring performances in 29 games.
This past summer, Doughty was also named the "best playmaker" at the 2014 Under Armour High School Showcase in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Philadelphia guard also earned Showcase MVP honors at the Kyle Lowry Rising Stars Challenge, the Philly vs. New York All-City Classic and the 8Eye Classic.
"Samir's work ethic and basketball knowledge has allowed him to grow his game over time. St. John's has landed a gem, who is just scratching the surface of his full potential," said Lavin.
Lavin's recruiting efforts at St. John's have been highlighted by the No. 3 nationally-ranked Class of 2011 and the No. 8 Class of 2012 as well as a pair of BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honorees in JaKarr Sampson (2013) and Maurice Harkless (2012). St. John's had just one available scholarship for the 2013-14 season and Lavin reeled in the highest-ranked prospect of his Red Storm tenure in Rysheed Jordan, who ranked No. 22 in the ESPN 100.
