Head Coach Steve Lavin
Opening Statement:
"The maturity of our upperclassmen was on display tonight, and that allowed to us to pull off the victory. There were a number of positives on the stat sheet. The 9-of-16 from the 3-point line jumps out and the 20-of-25 from the foul line was critical. Holding Syracuse to 39 percent shooting was another plus. The 12 assists on 20 field goals is a nice ratio. We made the extra pass to find the open the man, which you have to do against this Syracuse zone that is so long, athletic and effective at smothering offenses."
"Across the board our guard play was stellar if you look at the numbers. Down the stretch our execution on offense was precise, we got good looks at the bucket and made stops at the most important time of the game. I couldn't ask for more from a group of young men. I'm pleased that they were able to get this win in a tough environment."
On the second half performance of Phil Greene IV:
"There are stretches when you don't make shots, but you have to stay with it and have confidence in your ability to make plays. The team clearly has confidence in each other and that synergy helps us when we're in tough environments like this. The balanced approach of our offense, our ability to distribute the ball to different players over the course of a game is one of our strengths. Phil is a really good shooter. Tonight he stepped up once again and made big shots as he has throughout his career."
On defeating Syracuse at the Carrier Dome:
"This group has experienced some big wins over their careers, but this may be the biggest to this point. This is an in-state rivalry against a former BIG EAST member. The locker room had a special feel postgame. There was a good energy yet they understand we have work to do."
