Head Coach Steve Lavin
Opening Statement:
"I thought the kids took a positive step forward, which is encouraging as we head toward the second half of BIG EAST play. There were a number of positive aspects of play today and as a result we were able to get a win against a very feisty Marquette team."
On the team's play of late:
"It's always good to win and in the big picture it's four out of five victories. I actually think we have played better in some of the recent games that we lost. It's one of the mysteries of the game that makes it tough to figure. I think this league is as competitive as any and we work hard to position our team to win. The big picture is that we want to continue to make progress as a team and today we did that."
On Marquette:
"They are a really competitive and feisty team that is hard to prepare for. Buzz [Williams] has a proven hip-pocket coaching style, in that he will go with whatever is working to put his team in the best position to win. He's flexible in his approach and consequently Marquette is tough to prepare for."
Junior Guard D'Angelo Harrison
On the improved performance:
"This is four out of five wins for us and we have some great momentum. We had a heartbreaker at Creighton, but we came out and played hard today and got a win. Everything is moving in the right direction and everyone just bought in. We always have great practices and it's finally clicking now. Everybody had a great game today and it was just a good win for us."
Sophomore Forward JaKarr Sampson
On the fast start:
"We just got out to a great start. We normally get off to slow starts. In the first half we got off to a great start and we continued it all the way through the second half. It was an even game all the way through and that's what 40 minutes of St. John's basketball is supposed to look like."
