Head Coach Steve Lavin
Opening Statement:
"I'm pleased that we took another step in a positive direction as a basketball team. When a team beats you, as Georgetown did earlier this season, you want to come back and beat them. I think the bigger picture here is that the team is continuing to make strides in a positive direction. It's a team that, since the last time we played Georgetown, has continued to improve on a daily basis and now we are seeing the dividends of that hard work."
On D'Angelo Harrison and Rysheed Jordan's play:
"I think D'Angelo and Rysheed's performances were emblematic of our team tonight and really set the tone. Rysheed early in the game and D'Angelo in the second half after Georgetown made a run helped our cause. Their aggressiveness and purposeful play made a big difference for us tonight."
On Rysheed Jordan:
"Rysheed is acclimating to the highest level of college basketball. The more reps he gets with each practice and each game allows him to elevate his play. That's why nobody on the team or the staff is surprised by his performance. We've been around him every day and seen how he's blossomed, so when he does these things on the court, to us that's just him being Rysheed."
On the team's recent success:
"They're being rewarded for staying the course and the path of progress but I still think our best basketball is ahead of us."
Junior Guard D'Angelo Harrison
On tonight's game:
"We did a good job playing as a group. We were hungry for this win, came out with a lot of energy and sustained it for 40 minutes. They made a run, but we capitalized and we did our thing tonight."
On beating Georgetown:
"This group has never beat Georgetown before so we're going to celebrate it probably for the next hour and then we're going to flush it. We have to get ready for Butler. They're a great team so we've got to flush this one. It's a one-game winning streak, so this one's over. We've got to get another one so that's where our mindset is at right now."
Junior Guard/Forward Sir'Dominic Pointer
On tonight's win:
"It was one of the best games I've seen at St. John's. Rysheed [Jordan] didn't know, but he got a taste of it the last time we played them. We haven't played well against them so there was no better time for it to come than now while we're on our winning streak."
On the NCAA Tournament being within reach:
"We're in a nice little groove right now. If we keep winning, it stays in our hands. If we don't lose, we have a strong enough schedule and a high enough RPI right now to stay in it."
On the team:
"Everyone is coming into their own and playing their part right now. Whether you play 30 minutes or only a couple, everyone is giving it their all. We have our role players playing the right way and our scorers are scoring the ball. Everyone knows their role and we will stick with that."
