NEW YORK - Team Notes
- The Red Storm shot just 36.7 percent (22-of-60), its second-straight game shooting less than 40.0 percent. St. John's had shot better than 42.0 percent in nine-consecutive games prior to the past two contests. The Red Storm is 0-5 in BIG EAST play when shooting below 40.0 percent.
- St. John's shot just 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the free throw line, snapping a stretch of 14-straight games shooting at least 68.0 percent from the charity stripe. The 14-game stretch included five games of at least 80.0 percent and a total of nine games shooting at least 75.0 percent.
- The Red Storm blocked eight shots, its most since a 12-swat performance on Feb. 1 against Marquette.
- St. John's turned the ball over 14 times, a total that matches the second-most this season. The Red Storm is 2-2 when committing 14 or more turnovers.
- St. John's, which committed 19 fouls in the game, is now 7-8 this season when being called for 19 or more fouls. The Red Storm is also 4-9 when shooting fewer free throws than the opposition.
Individual Notes
- JaKarr Sampson finished with a team-high 14 points to secure his 23rd double-figure game this season. Sampson blocked two shots for the second-straight game and has at least one swat in each of the past five games.
- Orlando Sanchez scored 11 points to record his first double-figure game since a 16-point performance against Seton Hall on Jan. 23. Sanchez finished 4-of-6 from the floor and went 1-of-2 from long range, draining his first 3-pointer since Feb. 1 against Marquette.
- Rysheed Jordan finished with 11 points to reach double-figures for the 12th time this season, including 10 times in BIG EAST play. Jordan, who matched a career-high with three steals, added one assist and has recorded at least one helper in 27-of-27 games played this season.
- Phil Greene IV went 1-of-4 from long range to extend his streak of making at least one trey to eight-straight games. Greene is 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) from distance in that span.
- Jamal Branch started for the first time since Feb. 1 against Marquette and finished with four points.
