QUEENS, N.Y. (May 29, 2015) -- SJU-TV took home its first College Sports Media Award after winning the Outstanding Promotion, PSA, Marketing Campaign category in the Collegiate Athletics division. The seventh annual CSMAs were presented by SVG (Sports Video Group) and NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) at the 2015 SVG College Sports Summit at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta, Ga.
The 2014-15 St. John's Men's Basketball Intro Video was selected as the winner by a panel of judges over the entries of South Carolina, Michigan, Northeastern, Tennessee Tech, and Lafayette College. This year's competition was the largest to date, with more than 400 entries submitted, an all-time high and approximately a 30% increase over last year's field.
Upon accepting the award, Director of Multimedia Ryan Gilbert said, "I have to say, it was awesome to see this at Madison Square Garden, it was awesome to see at Carnesecca Arena, and it's awesome to see here in front of my peers. It means a lot, and I'm very proud of this."
Gilbert later added, "One of the goals for SJU-TV was for it to become nationally recognized and respected as an elite operation. Thanks to the hard work of everyone who has contributed to our efforts over the years SJU-TV has grown to that level."
SJU-TV also received a nomination in the Outstanding Live Game Production category in the Collegiate Student division for its men's basketball broadcast vs. Humboldt State. This past year, SJU-TV produced over 60 live events for ESPN3.
