Head coach Chris Mullin…
On what it means to bring so many people out today:
“This is a wonderful event that brings everyone together for children’s cancer research. Dr. Cairo does a great job and PCRF is a great organization. Cancer affects everybody at some point. I lost both my parents to cancer and my brother is battling cancer right now. It’s a disease I hate and I’ll do anything to get rid of it. To bring people together for a common cause and to do it here with Coach Carnesecca and Mr. Kaiser is very special.”
On what it means for the players to interact with the cancer survivors:
“It puts a face to a disease that is awful and it also lets you know that people need our help. Sometimes it’s just showing up and giving a smile or a hug. Obviously, donating money helps but at some point in time we all need someone else and that’s why God put us on this earth. First and foremost we have to take care of ourselves mentally, spiritually and physically so then we’re able to help others.”
Senior guard Felix Balamou…
On Dribble for the Cure memories :
“Dribbling with the kids is always fun. I enjoy signing autographs and getting to know new people. Giving back to the community is what it’s always about.”
On his role as a leader:
“I’ve been here for four years now and it’s all about leading the new guys and helping them out on and off the court.”
Graduate student guard/forward Durand Johnson…
On what it means to help out in the community:
“Giving back is always special. The kids come out and want to have fun, meet the players and enjoy the day. It’s always good for me to give back and help out in some type of way, no matter if it was signing autographs or just playing basketball with the kids, having fun and enjoying a good time. That is what it’s all about.”
Graduate student guard/forward Ron Mvouika…
On the atmosphere St. John’s fans bring:
“You can feel the positive vibes around campus which is a great thing so hopefully we can get something special going here.”
On events like this bringing the team together:
“It’s a great opportunity for us to come here and show our support. It brings everybody together. It lets us show the kids, the families and the fans that as a program we’re trying to move forward and build this thing together.”
On upcoming goals for the season:
“My goal is to win. I don’t have any personal goals except giving it my best every night and winning as many games as we can.”
St. John’s Women’s Basketball…
Junior guard Aaliyah Lewis…
On what it means to give back to the community:
“It means a lot to just be here with the kids that survived. It’s a great feeling to walk around campus and build a relationship with the survivors.”
Senior guard Danejah Grant…
On some of the best memories of past Dribble for the Cure events:
“My favorite memory is seeing the smiles on the kid’s faces when you come out and interact with them. It’s a great feeling to give the survivors a special day to come out and enjoy the atmosphere.”
