St. John’s Signs 7-Year-Old Harlem Beal to Letter of Intent

Harlem and St. John’s were connected through Team IMPACT
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball program officially added its newest member on Friday afternoon, as 7-year-old Harlem Beal signed a Letter of Intent to become a part of the Red Storm family.
Harlem, who is currently battling sarcoma, and the Red Storm were brought together through Team IMPACT, a national nonprofit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes.
The Long Island City native, flanked by Head Coach Chris Mullin and senior forward Marvin Clark II signed a letter of intent on Friday afternoon in Carnesecca Arena. Several other members of the St. John's men's basketball program and athletic department were also on hand for the signing ceremony.
"We're really excited that Harlem has chosen St. John's University," said Mullin. "We feel he's going to be a great addition to our team. He's a winning player and I think he's going to be a great fit with our program. We have a bunch of players here and they're all excited to welcome him to our team."
"We're definitely excited to have Harlem join our team," said Clark. "He's somebody that's been through adversity, knows how to take adversity. He's somebody that knows what it takes to commit and put the time in to get better. I'm definitely excited to have him as part of the team."
Harlem, more reticent than his new teammate and coach, said that joining the Red Storm family felt "good." He also added that dribbling is the strongest part of his game.
Harlem will join the team for its next home game at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 16 against Wagner.
