Casper Pohto to Miss Remainder of Season with Hip Injury

St. John’s Men’s Basketball freshman guard to undergo hip surgery on Friday and will be sidelined for six to eight months
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's basketball guard Casper Pohto will have surgery on Friday to repair a chronic hip injury and will be sidelined for six to eight months, ending his season with the Johnnies.
A 6-foot-3 freshman from Stockholm, Sweden, Pohto has participated in six games this season, averaging nearly five minutes in those appearances. Pohto scored his first collegiate basket in a victory over Bucknell on Nov. 20 at Carnesecca Arena.
Last season, Pohto led Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas to a 17-7 record and advanced to the EYBL Scholastic Tournament semifinals. He averaged 13.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Sweden in the 2024 U-18 EuroBasket Tournament.
The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday hosting Iona at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. with a live broadcast airing on TNT and simulcasts on truTV as well as HBO Max.
