Kajan’s four goals in two games earn her conference honors
After leading the St. John's women's soccer team to an unbeaten 1-0-1 week, highlighted by a thrilling come from behind victory at Villanova on Thursday, Zsani Kajan has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference this afternoon.
Â
The redshirt junior tallied four goals in just two matches for the Red Strom, notching a hat trick at Villanova on Thursday afternoon.
Â
With the second hat trick of her Red Storm career, Kajan became only the second player in program history to record multiple three-goal outings. The Budapest, Hungary, native joins former St. John's standout Rachel Daly, who registered three during her Red Storm tenure.
Â
On the road against Villanova, Kajan scored a pair of goals during regulation before netting the eventual game winner just 25 seconds into extra time. Anchored by Kajan's efforts, St. John's scored four goals for the team's highest single-game output of the season to defeat the Wildcats, 4-3.
On Sunday afternoon against Creighton, Kajan netted the lone Red Storm goal in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the Bluejays. The tally marked Kajan's 10th goal of the season, as she became one of just three St. John's women's soccer players in program history to record double-digit scoring in multiple campaigns. The redshirt junior joined former Johnnies Cristin Burtis and Daly on that elite list.
Â
The redshirt junior now ranks third in the league with 10 goals this season, six of those coming during conference play. With 10 tallies, the Budapest, Hungary, native bumped her career total up to 23 to move into fifth on the Red Storm's all-time scoring list.
Â
Kajan and the St. John's women's soccer team return to action Thursday for the final match of the 2019 regular season, as the Johnnies travel to No. 14 Georgetown. First kick is slated for 2 p.m.
