QUEENS, N.Y. (Dec. 10, 2019) – After leading the Red Storm to its most successful season in more than a decade, Erica Di Maulo and Efrosini Alexakou have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Coast Region Team, it was announced today by the organization.
Di Maulo and Alexakou also both earned AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention nods last season while Alexakou was also named the East Coast Region Freshman of the Year.
This marks the first time in program history that two St. John's players have earned a spot on the All-East Coast Region First Team during the same season.
Di Maulo led the team with 1,190 assists this season and ranked third in the conference with 10.17 helpers per set. The senior setter also placed fifth in the BIG EAST with 0.38 service aces per set. Di Maulo shattered the program's all-time assists record in 2019 with 4,995 helpers and moved up to the no. 1 spot on the career service aces list with 148.

As a team, the Red Storm captured its second-ever BIG EAST Tournament Championship this season, last winning the tournament in 2007.
The Johnnies were also one of 32 teams to earn an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. St. John's also made the tournament for the first time since its Round of 16 run in 2007.
The Red Storm finished the year with a 22-12 record and picked up 12 wins in conference play. The Johnnies also notched four wins against AVCA Top-100 teams this season.
