The St. John's volleyball team fell to No. 21 San Diego in straight sets on Sunday night in the squad's final match at the Stan Sheriff Center in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-23 and 25-23, all in favor of the Toreros, who reached the round of 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore Rachele Rastelli had a fantastic night for the Johnnies, recording a team-high 15 kills and two digs in the loss.

St. John's came out strong in the first set, taking an early 2-4 lead. The Toreros responded with a 7-0 run to jump ahead of the Johnnies and never looked back. San Diego won in the opening fame, 25-17.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle between both programs, with Rastelli leading the way on offense for the Red Storm. The sophomore notched seven kills in the second stanza. Despite Rastelli's stellar effort for St. John's, the Toreros took the set by a slim margin of 25-23.
The third frame featured another tremendous effort for the Johnnies. It looked as if the Red Storm would run away with it, securing a 17-12 lead at the halfway point. The Toreros responded, stringing together an 8-2 run down the stretch to win, 25-23, following a pair of kills to close out the match.
St. John's will return to action on Tuesday night against NJIT. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
