St. John’s junior wing averaged 24.5 points per game last week for St. John’s
QUEENS, N.Y. – After averaging 24.5 points per game against Indiana and Fairleigh Dickinson, Julian Champagnie has been named to his second BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in as many opportunities this season.
Â
The reigning BIG EAST scoring champion and a unanimous preseason First Team All-BIG EAST selection, Champagnie scored a game-high 32 points on the road against Indiana before posting a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double on Saturday against FDU.
Â
In Assembly Hall on Wednesday, Champagnie eclipsed the 30-point mark for the second time in his St. John's tenure, finishing one shy of his career high with 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including a career-best six 3-pointers on just 12 attempts. The junior also grabbed a team-high seven boards and dished out a pair of assists. 22 of his 32 points came after the intermission, as St. John's erased a 12-point halftime deficit before falling short by two points, 76-74, in a hostile road environment.
Â
Three days later in Queens, Champagnie recorded his first double-double of the season, tallying 17 points and 10 rebounds in a game against FDU during which the Red Storm never trailed and led by as many as 22. The Bishop Loughlin native also notched three steals, just one off his career high.Â
Â
Champagnie and the Red Storm will return to action Tuesday at Carnesecca Arena when they play host to St. Francis Brooklyn. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on FS2.Â
