St. John’s junior averaged 18.5 points in 2-0 week for the Red Storm
QUEENS, N.Y.  – For the third time in as many opportunities this season, junior wing Julian Champagnie has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday by the conference office.
Â
During a 2-0 week for the Johnnies (5-1), Champagnie averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per contest.
Â
In the Red Storm's Tuesday win over St. Francis Brooklyn at Carnesecca Arena, Champagnie scored a game-high 23 points, 15 of which came in the second half, on 10-of-20 shooting. In addition to pacing the Johnnies in scoring, Champagnie also tallied six boards, five assists, four blocks and four steals. The last three of those outputs all set or matched career-highs for the 2021 First Team All-BIG EAST selection.
Â
A few days later against NJIT, Champagnie recorded his second double-double in the span of three games, posting 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals. The effort marked the Brooklyn native's 13th career double-double.Â
Â
Entering the week, Champagnie ranks second in the BIG EAST at 21.3 points per game. Last season, Champagnie (19.5 ppg) became just the fourth Johnnie in program history to lead the BIG EAST in scoring over the course of a conference season, joining an elite fraternity that includes Chris Mullin (1983-84), Walter Berry (1985-86) and Marcus Hatten (2001-02).Â

St. John's will return to action on Friday night against No. 4 Kansas in the first-ever basketball game at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. Tickets for the contest are on sale now at RedStormTix.com. Fans can also secure their seats by calling 1-888-GO-STORM or by emailing RedStormSports@stjohns.edu .
