Julian Champagnie Named to USBWA All-District Team

St. John’s Men’s Basketball Sophomore Honored by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's sophomore Julian Champagnie has been recognized by the United States Basketball Writers Association, as the Brooklyn native was named to the USBWA All-District II Team on Tuesday. Champagnie was one of nine BIG EAST players and one of only three underclassmen from the conference to earn USBWA All-District honors.

An All-BIG EAST First Team selection and the league's Most Improved Player, Champagnie helped lead St. John's to a winning record in the BIG EAST for the first time since 2014-15, finishing tied for fourth in the conference with a 10-9 league mark.

Champagnie scored in double-figures in all 25 appearances and led the BIG EAST in scoring with 19.8 points per game. He also became the first underclassmen in program history and just the fourth Johnnie overall to lead the BIG EAST in scoring over the course of a conference season with a 19.5 scoring average in league play.

In addition to earning the BIG EAST's scoring title, Champagnie topped the league in free-throw percentage (88.7 pct) while finishing fifth in 3-point field goals per game (2.4 3FGM) and 15th in 3-point field goal percentage (38.0 pct). Champagnie also ranked in the top-10 of the BIG EAST in rebounding (7.4 rpg), steals (1.4 spg), blocks (1.0 bpg) and double-doubles (7).

Over the course of the season, Champagnie claimed a pair of BIG EAST Player of the Week awards and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times.

In his first two seasons at St. John's, Champagnie has recorded 812 points, 392 rebounds, 76 steals and 51 blocks while leading the Red Storm to back-to-back winning campaigns.
