Department of Athletics to Host Enshrinement Ceremony for 22nd Induction Class along with Red Storm Tip-Off on the Weekend of October 22-24
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Department of Athletics announced Thursday its plans to induct the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2021 this fall as part of an action packed weekend for supporters and alumni October 22-24. In addition to hosting the 22nd Hall of Fame Ceremony, the weekend will also feature Red Storm Tip-Off, an annual celebration at the start of basketball season.
"We are thrilled for what is sure to be a very special and memorable weekend this fall," said Director of Athletics Mike Cragg. "The St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame is a top priority for our University, so we look forward to once again celebrating the individuals who have made a lasting impact on our sports programs and community. There is no doubt Red Storm Tip-Off and other signature events soon to be planned will also infuse energy on campus throughout the weekend."
Details for the 2021 St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony and Red Storm Tip-Off will be announced at a later date.
After a five-year hiatus, St. John's inducted last year's eight-member class on Jan. 18, 2020. The distinguished cohort featured Jackie Ahlers (Volleyball), Keegan Bradley (Men's Golf), Yury Gelman (Fencing), Roman Linscheid (Track & Field), Felipe Lopez (Men's Basketball), Joe Russo (Baseball), Da'Shena Stevens (Women's Basketball) and Chris Wingert (Men's Soccer). A portion of 2020 Hall of Fame Weekend was held in the newly created Hall of Fame Room, a space inside Carnesecca Arena designed to pay homage to St. John's Hall of Famers and future induction classes.
Established in 1984-85, the St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame consists of nearly 150 members representing the majority of the Red Storm's current sports teams as well as discontinued programs. In addition to former student-athletes and coaches, numerous administrators and honorary members have been inducted into the Hall for their valued contributions and accomplishments during their time associated with St. John's Athletics.
Led by a 13-member advisory committee, which features former student-athletes and coaches, administrators and supporters, the nomination process has commenced to identify the worthy honorees for the 22nd induction class. To nominate a candidate for the St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame please email biographical and supporting information to Stephen Dombroski (dombross@stjohns.edu) by July 1, 2021.
