Jessica Garziano scores game-winning goal for Red squad
The St. John's women's soccer team hosted an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday night that saw 2021 spring All-BIG EAST First Team selection Jessica Garziano notch the game-winning goal in the 26th minute, lifting the Red side to 1-0 victory.
Following nearly 26 scoreless minutes of action, the Red side jumped ahead and never looked back as Garziano converted on a free kick. The Melville, N.Y., native rocketed her shot to the right corner of the cage, sending the Red side into the half with a 1-0 advantage.
Garziano, who led St. John's in scoring with seven goals over the 2021 spring campaign, wrapped up the evening with a game-high six shot attempts for the Red squad.
Despite picking up the loss in her first appearance between the pipes, Meghan Groah, who was playing for White, stopped four attempts on goal.
St. John's will play its first game of the regular season in less than two weeks, as the team is set to kick off the 2021 fall campaign on Aug. 19 against NJIT at Belson Stadium.
