St. John’s Welcomes Luis Velez as Director of Multimedia Services

QUEENS, N.Y. (Sep. 16, 2021) – Athletic Director Mike Cragg has announced the appointment Luis Velez as the department's new director of multimedia services.
In this role, Velez will be responsible for the coordination of all in-house athletics productions. Including live game broadcasts on ESPN3, FloSports and the BIG EAST Digital Network. In addition, he will produce on-demand video for the athletic department's official website and its social media platforms.
The Queens, N.Y, native returns to his home borough after a three-year stint as the New Media Director at nearby St. Francis College in Brooklyn. Velez oversaw video, photo and live-streaming operations for the Terriers, 19 NCAA Division I athletic programs.

Velez graduated from St. Francis Brooklyn in December of 2017, with a bachelor's degree in communication arts with a concentration in digital media. He also minored in sports management.
In addition to his work at St. Francis, Velez has been working as a freelance photographer since 2016. He was named a Latin American Photographer to Watch in 2017 by Focus Camera.
Velez has also worked as a camera operator, producer, and video editor for Backpack Broadcasting. While with the production company, the short film "La Cultura: A Puerto Rican Boxing Story" won Best Sports Film and Best Short Story Documentary at the 2020 Global Independent Film Awards.
