QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Department of Athletics announced Friday its plans to induct the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022 this fall as part of Homecoming Weekend on October 21-23. In addition to the 23rd Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony, the action-packed weekend will also feature Red Storm Tip-Off, an annual celebration at the start of basketball season.
Details for the 2022 St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony and Red Storm Tip-Off will be announced at a later date.
Last year, St. John's inducted a nine-member class on October 23, 2021 as part of the University's Homecoming Weekend. The distinguished cohort featured 17-year NBA veteran and current ESPN/ABC commentator Mark Jackson, men's basketball great Joe DePre, as well as two-time College World Series participant Ralph Addonizio. The class also featured legendary track & field coach Jim Hurt, two-time BIG EAST Women's Golf Champion Harin Lee and three-time All-American quarterback Todd Jamison. Former Red Storm standout and current women's basketball assistant coach Shenneika Smith was also enshrined, as was men's soccer All-American and national champion Kevin Daly and four-time All-American and Olympic medalist Dagmara Wozniak.
Established in 1984-85, the St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame consists of nearly 160 members representing the majority of the Red Storm's current sports teams as well as discontinued programs. In addition to former student-athletes and coaches, numerous administrators and honorary members have been inducted into the Hall for their valued contributions and accomplishments during their time associated with St. John's Athletics.
Led by a 12-member advisory committee, which features former student-athletes and coaches, administrators and supporters, the nomination process has commenced to identify the worthy honorees for the 23rd induction class.
