QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Women's Soccer Head Coach Ian Stone added Maia Cabrera to his coaching staff, naming the former Johnnies standout a volunteer assistant coach for the 2022 campaign.
Cabrera closed out her playing career with the Red Storm during the historic 2021 campaign. The midfielder helped the Johnnies to a 13-7-3 record while reaching the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. During the 2021 season, Cabrera appeared in 19 matches, earning the start against Lehigh. The Rego Park, N.Y., native scored three goals during the year, including the St. John's lone goal in their NCAA Tournament Round of 16 tilt at top-seeded Duke.
Over the course of her five-year stint at St. John's, Cabrera appeared in over 80 matches and logged over 2,500 minutes in the Red and White. She finished her career with 18 points, six goals and six assists. She recorded three golden goals during her time in Queens, including the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph at Seton Hall during her final season.
Cabrera joins a staff full of St. John's women's soccer alumnus. Both assistant coaches Amy Marron and Samantha Masur donned the Red and White for Stone during their collegiate playing days. Marron finished her collegiate career in Queens in 2015, while Masur hung up her cleats following the 2019 season.
