St. John’s Assistant Coach Van Macon to be Honored at ABIS College Athlete Advancement Awards

QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's basketball assistant coach Van Macon will be recognized for his outstanding leadership in collegiate athletics at the College Athlete Advancement Awards, hosted by Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS) on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Coral House in Baldwin, N.Y.
The ABIS event is honoring leaders who advocate for the advancement of generational wealth for collegiate athletes. ABIS is dedicated to connecting and inspiring people to boldly advocate for racial equity, social and economic justice for blacks in sports.
Macon, who will enter his fifth season at St. John's when the Red Storm kicks off its season against Stony Brook on Nov. 7, will be joined by Hofstra women's basketball head coach Danielle Santos Atkinson and Rutgers gymnastics head coach Umme Salim-Beasley in recognition for their contributions to their respective sports and collegiate athletes as a whole.
