St. John’s Adds Graduate Transfer Nahiem Alleyne to 2023-24 Roster

The 6-foot-4 guard joins the Red Storm after one season with NCAA Champion and BIG EAST rival UConn
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's head coach Rick Pitino announced Tuesday the signing of graduate transfer Nahiem Alleyne who joins the program after helping UConn capture the 2023 NCAA National Championship.
"Nahiem is a veteran coming off a national championship," said Pitino. "He has had great success at both Virginia Tech and Connecticut, and he is a wonderful addition to our roster. Nahiem has strong fundamentals at both ends of the floor."
A 6-foot-4 guard from Buford, Ga., Alleyne started 92 of 129 career appearances over three seasons at Virginia Tech and last year at UConn. In his four years at the Division I level, Alleyne has scored 1,072 points, hitting 81.6 percent of his attempts at the free-throw line and shooting 37.0 percent beyond the arc.
Alleyne appeared in all 38 games, making eight starts, this past season during UConn's national championship run. He averaged 5.1 points with 32 3-pointers and shot 86.2 percent at the line playing 17.9 minutes per game for the Huskies. Alleyne elevated his scoring production in the NCAA Tournament, posting 7.2 points per contest.
Prior to his one season in Storrs, Conn., Alleyne played three years at Virginia Tech, where he helped the Hokies to a 54-46 overall record, an ACC Tournament Championship and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Alleyne played in 90 games at Virginia Tech, making 84 starts while averaging 9.7 points per contest. In total, he scored 871 points during his time with the Hokies, posting double figures 42 times, including seven 20+ point performances. A three-time ACC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team honoree, Alleyne also shot 80.7 percent at the free-throw line and 38.7 percent from distance over his three seasons in Blacksburg, Va.
Prior to Virginia Tech, Alleyne was a two-year letterwinner at Mountain View High School in Lawrenceville, Ga., under Coach BJ Roy. As a senior at Mountain View in 2018-19, Alleyne averaged 17.2 points per game and hit 63 three-pointers, earning GHSA All-State and All-Region recognition. Alleyne started his high school career at South Gwinnett in Snellville, Ga., playing there for two years before transferring to Mountain View.
