QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's dance and cheer squads will head down to Orlando, Fla. for the Universal Dance Association and the Universal Cheer Association National Championships at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
The three-day competition is set to begin tomorrow and will continue through Sunday. On Friday, the dance and cheer teams will compete together in the game-day section of the competition for the second year in a row. Last season, the Red Storm secured a second-place finish in its first joint game-day appearance in program history.
The St. John's dance team will also compete in the preliminary round of the jazz section of the championships on Friday night. The semifinal round of the jazz championship will take place on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Johnnies will also compete in the hip-hop category of the weekend at the State Farm Field House. The Red Storm took home second place in hip hop last year. The squad has previously taken home national titles in the competition in both 2020 and 2016.
If the squad advances, the finals for both jazz and hip-hop will take place on Sunday. Fans can watch the National Championship live throughout the weekend on the Varsity Network.
