St. John’s Mourns the Passing of Gerald Lawrence

Former Red Storm basketball player passed away on Jan. 9 at the age of 90

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's basketball program and University community mourns the passing of former standout Gerald Lawrence on Jan. 9.

Lawrence made 58 appearances for St. John's from 1953-56, averaging 3.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

After his playing career, Lawrence went on to become a successful orthopedist in Connecticut at Windham Community Memorial Hospital. He was also an orthopedist to USA Basketball, the BIG EAST Tournament, and the US Open (tennis). Lawrence also served terms as Chairman of the Board at Windham Hospital, President of the Connecticut Orthopedic Society, on the UConn Board of Trustees and on the UConn Health Center Board of Trustees.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 5-7 p.m. at the Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home located at 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, Conn. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 11:30 a.m. at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme in Old Lyme, Conn.
