St. John’s Men’s Basketball Participates in BIG EAST Media Day

NEW YORK – With the 2024-25 season opener less than two weeks away, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Pitino, Zuby Ejiofor and Kadary Richmond attended BIG EAST Media Day at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
The Red Storm's second-year head coach and the 2024-25 co-captains met with members of the local and national media in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
Media Day coincided with the release of the conference's coaches' poll and preseason all-league teams. Richmond was recognized as a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team while teammate Deivon Smith earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team. The Johnnies were picked to finish fifth preseason coaches' poll. UConn was predicted to win the conference while Creighton, Xavier and Marquette were also picked ahead of St. John's. Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner was selected as the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year.
The St. John's men's basketball team will kick off its second season under Pitino on Monday, Nov. 4, welcoming Fordham to Carnesecca Arena for a 6:30 p.m. showdown.
