St. John’s Receives No. 22 Ranking in Associated Press Poll

The Red Storm men’s basketball team earns first top 25 selection since the 2018-19 season
QUEENS, N.Y. – For the first time since the 2018-19 season, the St. John's men's basketball team has landed in the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll with No. 22 distinction, as announced on Monday.
The Red Storm, one of four teams from the BIG EAST to be in the Top 25 entering week two of the season, joins No. 3 UConn, No. 14 Creighton and No. 15 Marquette. The No. 22 ranking is St. John's highest since checking in at No. 15 on Dec. 29, 2014.
Fresh off wins against Fordham and Quinnipiac, the Red Storm has averaged 94.0 points with RJ Luis Jr. posting a team-high 18.0 points per game. The Johnnies cruised to a 92-60 victory over Fordham on opening night behind a career-high 17-point performance from Simeon Wilcher and a 16-point, nine-rebound and five-assist performance from Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team selection Kadary Richmond.
On Saturday, St. John's erupted for 61 points in the second half en route to a 96-73 victory over Preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) favorite Quinnipiac. Luis delivered 24 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. Deivon Smith logged 13 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Johnnies.
The Johnnies currently rank 38th in Division I averaging 94.0 points and 22nd in the nation with 7.0 blocks per contest. Smith has dished out 8.0 assists per contest, which is the 19th best average in the country, while Zuby Ejiofor ranks 13th overall with 3.0 blocks per game.
St. John's returns to action on Wednesday when Wagner visits Carnesecca Arena. Tip-off from Queens is slated for 6:30 p.m. on FS2.
