QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off a 28-point victory over DePaul, the Red Storm basketball team will travel to Milwaukee for a matchup at No. 7/7 Marquette on Saturday. Tip-off between the Red Storm and the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on FS1.
FOX Sports announcers Jeff Levering and LaPhonso Ellis are on the call for Saturday's tilt between St. John's (14-9, 6-6) and Marquette (17-5, 8-3). An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Vin Parise will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 392 and the SiriusXM App.
St. John's earned its sixth BIG EAST victory of the season with an 85-57 rout of the DePaul on Tuesday at UBS Arena. The Johnnies set a program record for most threes in a BIG EAST game by hitting 15 against the Blue Demons.
Jordan Dingle and Daniss Jenkins both registered 14 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the victory, which marked just the 13th time since 2005-06 that two Red Storm players drained four or more triples in a BIG EAST game. The last St. John's duo to hit four triples in a conference game was Aaron Wheeler and Julian Champagnie, who knocked down four each versus Butler on Feb. 18, 2022.
On Saturday, the Red Storm will try for its first win over a ranked opponent since topping No. 20/17 Providence, 73-68, on Feb. 11, 2023 at Madison Square Garden. St. John's last road win over a ranked team was an 85-74 victory over No. 6/7 Connecticut on Jan. 15, 2023 in Hartford. Joel Soriano tallied 13 of his team-high 19 points in the second half and shot 7-for-10 from the field. The Yonkers native also pulled down 13 rebounds in the win over the Huskies at XL Center.
The Johnnies also look to snap a five-game slide against Marquette and avenge a one-point setback in their first meeting on Jan. 20 at Madison Square Garden. St. John's nearly rallied all the way back from a 13-point deficit with 6:20 remaining and had two opportunities to take the lead in the final 10 seconds. In that contest, the Red Storm was without the services of Dingle as well as three assistant coaches, who missed the game due to illness.
St. John's and Marquette will meet for the 45th time in series history. St. John's last victory in the series came on Jan. 31, 2021, as the Johnnies defeated the Golden Eagles, 75-73, at Fiserv Forum behind a 22-point effort from Champagnie.
Marquette enters the matchup having won six-straight games with four of its last five wins coming on the road in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles are fresh off a 91-57 victory on Saturday at Georgetown. Kam Jones scored a game-high 31 points and shot 7-for-9 from 3-point territory. As a team, Marquette drained 14 3-pointers in the win over the Hoyas.
The Golden Eagles own a 10-1 record at home, including a 4-1 mark against BIG EAST opponents. Marquette's lone home loss at Fiserv Forum came against Butler, falling 69-62 on Jan. 10. The Golden Eagles will play its first home game since defeating Seton Hall, 75-57, on Jan. 27.
After visiting Marquette, the Red Storm will complete a two-game road stretch on Tuesday at Providence. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the national telecast airing on CBS Sports Network.
