St. John’s point guard became just the 11th player in program history to earn a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's point guard Daniss Jenkins earned a BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team selection following a standout performance at the 2024 conference tournament.
Jenkins became just the 11th player in program history to receive the recognition and the first since Erick Barkley and Lavor Postell were named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in 2000. A 6-foot-4 guard from Dallas, Jenkins averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in the conference's marquee event.
Jenkins helped lead the Red Storm to its first BIG EAST Tournament semifinal in 24 years with an 11-point, four-assist effort in the team's 91-72 victory over fourth-seeded Seton Hall in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals versus top-seeded Connecticut, Jenkins posted 27 points, shooting 9-for-22 from the field with three 3-pointers. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line versus the Huskies and dished out five assists to go with two steals.
The All-BIG EAST Second Team selection averaged 16.4 points and 5.0 assists per game against conference opponents this season. In the team's 22 games played against BIG EAST competition, Jenkins scored double figures in 20 contests, including five 20+ point efforts.
St. John's awaits its fate on Selection Sunday when the 2024 NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed at 6 p.m. on CBS. The Red Storm aims to make its first appearance in the Big Dance since 2019.
