St. John’s Athletics Announces Staff Additions

Red Storm welcomes four new employees and adds new position
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's Athletic Department announced the addition of four new employees and a role change for Doug Trani on Thursday.
Since the spring semester began in January 2024, the St. John's athletics staff welcomed Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Matt Anthony, Assistant Director for Compliance, Jennifer Strauss, Athletic Events Manager Daniel Vivolo and Student Services Assistant Rosie Insingo.
Additionally, executive staff member, Trani was elevated to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Human Resources transitioning from former his role as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.
Anthony began his new role on June 3. As Associate Athletics Director, he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the compliance department for all 17 athletic programs and maintain a comprehensive compliance monitoring program for all financial aid activities and all the nuances of bylaws pertaining to the playing and practice Season, He will provide on-going NCAA Rules Education programming to all student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff members and supervise the compliance department, while acting as a liaison to the BIG EAST Conference and NCAA. Anthony will be a member of St. John's senior staff and will serve on the Council on Community, Culture, and Social Justice.
Anthony arrives after spending 12 years in various roles at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. Most recently, he served as the Setters' Associate Athletic Director for Compliance/ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion after being promoted to the newly-created position in 2022. In this role, the Middletown, N.Y., native oversaw all initiatives related to DEI in conjunction with the Northeast 10 Conference.
Additionally, he oversaw Pace's compliance department as the assistant athletics director for compliance, where he directed all eligibility, financial aid, rules education and NCAA reporting. Anthony was promoted to the role in 2015 and ran the compliance department for his final nine years in Westchester.
Anthony has served on multiple committees throughout his career in collegiate athletics. He was a National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) Division II Committee member and served on the NCAA Baseball Regional Advisory Committee. On-campus, he was the faculty advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the sport administrator for multiple Setters athletic programs.
Anthony graduated with a master's degree in public administration from Pace in 2014. A former men's soccer four-year letterwinner and team captain at Ithaca College, he earned his bachelor's degree in sports management in 2012.
Strauss arrived in January as the Assistant Director of Compliance. She comes to Queens following a successful 13-year stint at Kellenberg Memorial High School in East Meadow, N.Y. At Kellenberg, Strauss created and managed the NCAA Coordinator's office at the school which operates within the College Placement Department. In the role, she helped oversee the NCAA eligibility process for the school's student-athletes.
Strauss was one of 12 individuals nationwide selected to the NCAA Eligibility High School Advisory Group in 2021. During her two-year term on the panel, she provided insight into the current needs, trends and challenges faced by high school counselors, coaches, administrators and anyone else who supports high school student-athletes.
Prior to her time on Long Island, Strauss spent two years as the head women's volleyball coach at Virginia Wesleyan University. Tasked with being named the inaugural head coach, Strauss was able to recruit talented players and build the foundation for what has become a successful program.
While building a volleyball program from scratch, Strauss earned her master's of science in Education and Sport Management, working as a graduate assistant at Old Dominion University. At Old Dominion, Strauss assisted in the development of marketing strategies for the Athletic Department and its various teams.
Strauss graduated from Fairfield University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, where she was a four-year student-athlete on the volleyball team, serving as team captain for three seasons. She was inducted into the Fairfield University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
Vivolo, a double alumnus of St. John's returned to Queens as the Athletic Events Manager. In this role, he works to oversee event operations for all Red Storm athletic venues and external use of all the department's facilities.
Prior to returning to St. John's, the Long Island native spent one year as an Account Executive for Group and Premium Sales with the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets. In this role, he corresponded with season ticket holders, corporate sponsors and premium groups to increase revenue. He previously worked for the team as a ticket sales intern in 2022.
During the 2022-23 school year, Vivolo served as an Athletic Administration Graduate Assistant at St. John's. In this role, he helped with project management, filed game contracts, oversaw event operations staff and assisted the administration with day-to-day tasks.
As an undergraduate student, he worked a student manager for the Red Storm women's basketball program and interned with the athletic facilities team.
He earned his master's degree in sports management from St. John's in 2023 and a bachelor's degree in business administration and sports management the year prior.
Insingo joined St. John's Student Development for Athletes department in January. In her role as a student services assistant, she processes all budget related transactions while maintaining a working knowledge of NCAA, BIG EAST Conference and University regulations. She plays an integral role in organizing the department's large-scale events such as Student-Athlete Career Night and the annual Athletic Awards Dinner.
Prior to this role, she worked an Accounts Payable Specialist at Genserve LLC, where she processed invoices for the maintenance repair company.
Insingo attended Assumption University in Worcester, Mass, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in business management in 2023. During her time there, she worked as an athletic marketing intern at nearby Holy Cross, working to promote the Crusaders' athletic programs. Additionally, she served as an admissions ambassador at Assumption and led campus tours.
Trani is his 20th year with the St. John's Athletic Department and recently transitioned to a newly created role as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Human Resources. The longtime member of the executive staff will spearhead human resources programming for the entire Red Storm Athletic Department. His day-to-day responsibilities include expanded human resources programming for all student-athletes and employees, on-boarding, professional development and ensuring a positive workplace environment.
