Red Storm and the Hawks will kick-off at 1 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's soccer team will return to Belson Stadium to begin a four-game homestand on Sunday, when it welcomes Saint Joseph's for a 1 p.m. contest.
Sunday's match-up will be streamed on FloSports with Joey Jarzynka and Sam Kuperman on the call from Queens.
The Red Storm will return to familiar stomping grounds for the first time in two weeks, when it bested Colgate 2-0 in the season opener on Aug. 18.
The Johnnies hold an even 1-1-1 record heading into Sunday's match after suffering its first setback on Wednesday night. St. John's fell to Yale, 1-0, at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Conn. After the Bulldogs took an early lead off a corner kick, the Red Storm generated a pair of breakaway chances but were unable to level the score.
Jordyn Levy tied for the game-high with three shots in Wednesday's match. On the year, the senior forward is knotted with freshman Madison Mariani for the team lead with eight shots.
Goalkeeper Malene Nielsen has played all 270 minutes in between the pipes for the Red Storm. The Denmark native has recorded 11 saves, a 0.67 GAA and a .846 save percentage.
St. John's and Saint Joseph's are set to square off for the seventh time in the history of the two programs. The Red Storm lead the all-time series, 5-1, including each of the last five matches. In 2022, the Johnnies downed the Hawks, 2-1, in the season opener at Belson Stadium courtesy of 85th minute game-winner from Nicole Gordon. The year prior, St. John's dominated Saint Joseph's in a 5-0 thrashing on Aug. 22, 2021 fueled by a hat-trick from Zsani Kajan.
Saint Joseph's will arrive in Queens with an unscathed resume and a 4-0-0 record on the season. The Hawks are one of just 22 teams in NCAA Division I with a perfect winning percentage as of Aug. 30. The backline has been stifling for Saint Joseph's as they boast three shutout performances and a .250 GAA, which ranks 16th in the country.
The Hawks are led by sophomore forward by Emily Hanrahan, who leads the team with three goals in four games including a brace in the 3-0 victory over Cleveland State on Aug. 25. In net, Katie Cappelletti has been stellar making 19 stops and allowing just one goal (0.25 GAA) in four starts.
Sunday's contest commences the Johnnies' longest homestand of the season. Following the match against Saint Joseph's the Red Storm will host UAlbany on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
